Church Dismissed
I liked this photo, taken by Maureen, of the Kpeyidzi church returning home, some carrying the benches we sat on, after worship last Sunday. The tree is pretty cool, too. Click for larger image.
Well, Dee, someone told me today that the tree is not a baobab—so my original hesitation at identifying it as such was right. My teammate Jeff Holland was in the village today and was told that the local name for it is “”Vuti.” The “Vu” part means a vehicle, such as a car or a boat. The “ti” suffix just means tree. It is called a “Vuti” because it is what they use to make dugout canoes from, and apparently it’s not good for much else. So far, I haven’t been able to learn the English, French, or scientific name. Maybe one of my West African missionary friends knows????
After 13 years of ministry in West Africa, I'm now a part of God's mission in Albany, Texas--the coolest little town in Texas. As a clay pot, I long to be filled by God and taken in his hands to be a blessing to the people of this community.
